Benannt wurde der Aussichtspunkt nach dem Dichter und Schriftsteller Victor von-Scheffel, der lange Zeit in der Gegend verbrachte. Er ist auch Autor des "Frankenliedes".

Zahlreiche Wanderwege führen hierher, z.B. der Mainwanderweg oder die Gottesgartenrunde Süd.
