Tschiffernella

In den Bergen Schutz vor Wind und Wetter zu finden, das kann zu ungeahnt komischen Erlebnissen führen. Als die beiden Bündner Pfarrer Luzius Pol (1754–1828) und Johann Catani (1745–1831) um 1780 die Silvretta erkunden, haben sie sich auf Vermunt ein besonderes Nachtlager ausersehen. Am «Berg Schiffernella» drüben erblicken sie eine Hütte, aber wie sie über die Bäche hinweg dort anlangen, erschrecken sie. «Lieber Gott», rufen sie aus und erinnern sich später noch: «Es war eine steinerne Hütte, wo wir hinkamen, und ein alter, kalter, steinharter Mensch bewohnte sie.»

Der alte Mann erschrickt allerdings nicht weniger. Seit acht Jahren hat er keinen Besuch mehr gehabt. Und dass da nun zwei Pfarrer daherkommen, die im Gebirge auch noch Kräuter sammeln, das will ihm nicht in den Kopf. Aber so sehr die Pfarrer erschrecken, so misstrauisch der alte Hirte erst auch ist, so sitzen sie am Abend doch alle vergnügt ums Feuer und teilen sich das Essen. Der Hirte nötigt die beiden Pfarrer sogar, seine Bettstatt, bestehend aus «Heu, Stuppen, alten Lumpen, Steinen, und wer weiss aus was mehr» mit ihm zu teilen. Hinter dem Hirten an die Wand gepresst, wagen sich die Pfarrherren auf dieser Bettstatt die Nacht über kaum zu rühren. Immerhin, so stellen sie fest, ist das Bett «wegen der Nachbarschaft von den Gletschern von Insekten frei».  

Die Gletscher haben aber nicht nur die Insekten von den beiden Pfarrern ferngehalten, sie hatten Jahrtausende zuvor überhaupt die Landschaft von Tschiffernella geformt. Nach ihrem Rückzug am Ende der Eiszeit haben die Gletscher eine Moränenlandschaft hinterlassen, in der sich heute noch kleine Seen finden.

Warum die Pfarrherren Kräuter sammelnd durchs Gebirge streifen, das hat der Hirte übrigens auch nach langen Erklärungen nicht verstanden. Dabei hatte er durchaus seine eigenen Kenntnisse der Natur. Morgen, hatte er noch beiläufig beim Abendessen gesagt, da werde schönes Wetter sein, denn das Vieh sei munter und lagere auf den Anhöhen oben, das sei immer ein unfehlbares Zeichen…
