MASSIF DES VOSGES

The Climont panoramic tower, or Tour Jules, was erected in 1897 by the Strasbourg section of the Club Vosgien. Monsieur Gérardin, owner of the Climont summit, donated the land needed to erect the tower. Built in the neo-medieval style with a square floor plan, it features a corbel at the top and an oriel window on the south side. The 17-metre-high tower, inaugurated in October 1897 by the Deutsches Reich authorities, features 78 steps and a commemorative plaque in honour of Julius Euting, famous orientalist and founding president of the Club Vosgien. It is affixed to the entrance. It cost 4,000 marks to build.
