The little temple was built in 1892 as a viewpoint and weather protection. Around 1900, there were similar excursion points in the Schellhofwald – above the "Weilburger Lackfabrik" located on the road to Ahausen – as well as on Gänsberg, the wooded slope between Reuschenbach and the Weiltal.
With the financial support of the Rotary Club Weilburg, the viewpoint was completely renovated and reopened to the public in November 1999. For the new stone floor, floor slabs from the former administrative building at Schlossplatz – today’s Mining and City Museum – were used.
