Das bizarr geformte Felsenriff des Stiegelesfels schiebt sich wie ein Schiffsbug in das mehr als 160 Meter tiefer liegende Durchbruchtal der Oberen Donau und gehört zu den mächtigsten Felsformationen der Schwäbischen Alb. Das Gebiet ist bekannt für seine teils sehr seltene Alpenflora und -fauna, vielfältige Insektenarten und große Greifvögel wie Uhu, Wanderfalke und Milan.
