The Knights of Spitz lived in the ruins of Hinterhaus 700 years ago. This castle was used by the Kuenringers to monitor the Danube. Today, the ruins are a popular excursion destination for families in the Wachau.
Its defensive walls, Romanesque palace and keep are still well preserved and freely accessible all year round. Particularly worth seeing during the big summer solstice festival.
