Auf dem „Roth-Berg“, über dem Krümmetal, (325 m über NN) befindet sich der Pulverturm, der wegen seiner Bauart ein Kleinod der Stadt Greiz ist.
Im Jahr 1841 wurde der Turm auf Verfügung der Reuß-Greizer Militärverwaltung erbaut. Grund war die Unterbringung eines größeren Postens Schießpulver. Die Bauleitung übernahm der fürstliche Cabinets-Rath von Grün. Ca. 20.000 Mauerziegel wurden für den 12 m hohen, quadratischen Turm (mit einer Seitenlänge von 3,35 m) verbaut. Er erhielt ein Spitzdach und ebenfalls vier Spitz bedachte Türmchen (Fialen) an jeder Dachseite. 1866 verlor der Turm seine Funktion als Pulverlager, da das Reußische Regiment für die neuen Waffen kein Pulver mehr benötigte. In den Folgejahren stand der Turm leer, drohende Abrisse konnten nur durch Notreparaturen vermieden werden.
1981 wurde der Turm grundhaft restauriert.
