The tabià, now fully restored, is a beautiful private mountain cabin that faithfully replicates the style of the ancient Cadore structures. The masonry ground floor, which once served as a shelter for the animals and a small kitchen, blends seamlessly with the wooden upper floor, originally intended for sleeping quarters and hay storage. The doors and shutters in a warm brick-red hue lend the structure a unique touch: a detail that contrasts with the building materials and blends harmoniously with the greenery of the surrounding woods.
As you stroll through the meadow, you can’t help but notice the beautiful blooms that characterize it. Among the many species, you can spot common sage (Salvia pratensis), common buttercup (Ranunculus acris), autumn dandelion (Scorzoneroides autumnalis), the marsh forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides), the daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), the campion or “Sciopet” (Silene vulgaris), yellow bedstraw (Gallium verum), and eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis)—known in the dialect of some areas of the Belluno region as “ocialina” due to its corolla resembling an eye with eyelashes, which led to beliefs about its ability to treat eye diseases.
In the middle of the meadow stand several splendid specimens of larch (Larix decidua), characterized by a light, sparse, pyramidal crown that allows light to filter through, promoting the growth of herbaceous vegetation. As evidence of the high atmospheric humidity and the absence of pollution, their canopies are abundantly covered with “barba de bech” (Usnea barbata), a pale green lichen that grows like a miniature, leafless shrub on the tree branches. In addition to larch, the pasture also features some beech trees (Fagus sylvatica) and spruce trees (Picea abies).
