O esforço da subida é bem recompensado pela esplêndida paisagem sobre a Cova da Beira e o flanco Sudeste e Este da serra da Estrela que esta modesta varanda metálica oferece. A pouco mais de 800 m de altitude, este miradouro encontra-se instalado sobre um afloramento de rocha xistosa em alguns pontos ainda revestida por uma planta trepadeira, a hera (Hedera helix) – daí o nome pedra d’hera –, e rodeado por extenso castinçal.
