Das Panorama vom Tafelberg Papststein ermöglicht uns einen 270° Blick von Nordwesten nach Osten bis Südwesten.
Im Nordwesten befindet sich die Festung Königstein. Rechts vom Königsteinerahnt man das Elbtal und sieht auf der anderen Elbseite den Lilienstein. Rechts hinter dem Lilienstein erstreckt sich am Horizont das Basteimassiv und weiter östlich das Brandmassiv. Nun sieht man im Vordergrund den Kletterfelsen "Große Hunskirche", die häufig bis in die Abenddämmerung von Kletterern bestiegen wird. Weiter im Süden (im Bild nach rechts) erkennt man die hellen Felsen der Schrammsteinkette. Hier sind noch die Spuren eines weit über 100 Jahre zurückliegenden Sandsteinabbau (in Postelwitz) erkennbar.
Die Schrammsteine gehen direkt in den Großen Winterberg über. Im Vordergrund liegt der kleine Urlaubsort Papstdorf mit seiner spätbarocken Kirche vor uns. Nicht nur dem Namen nach ist der Papststein der Hausberg von Papstdorf. Am Horizont hinter Papstdorf thront der weithin sichtbare, kegelförmige Rosenberg in der Böhmischen Schweiz. Es folgen dann nur noch zwei Mittelgebirgs-Giganten des Elbsandsteingebirges: der Große Zschirnstein und der Hohe Schneeberg.
