Wasserkraft für die Mühlen
Die Landsberger nutzten die Wasserkraft schon früh zum Betrieb von Mühlen. Dazu errichteten sie im 14. Jahrhundert einen Kanal durch die Stadt, in den sie das Flusswasser ableiteten. Für ihr Vorhaben mussten sie jedoch in den natürlichen Flussverlauf eingreifen. Sie stauten den Flusslauf unterhalb der Brücke mit einem hölzernen Wehr auf aund leiteten es Richtung Mühlbach um. Dort floss es sowohl in den Kanal als auch über zwei Stufen weiter flussabwärts. Den Flösern wäre an dieser Stelle die Weiterfahrt auf dem Lech nicht mehr möglich gewesen. Um aber auf den Handel mit ihnen nicht verzichten zu müssen, baute man für sie unmittelbar neben der Einleitung in den Mühlbach einen zweiten, wesentlich kürzeren und zugleich breiteren Kanal, die sogenannte Floßgasse. Durch diese Wasserstraße konnten die Flößer das Wehr umfahren und ihre Fahrt einige hundert Meter weiter nördlich auf dem Lech fortsetzen. Dafür wurde pro Floß ein Zoll von drei Pfenningen fällig.
