Want to overlook the famous Rangen vineyard or the city of Thann? First, you will have to walk along the wine path and climb to the Rangen Cross to enjoy the view!
The Rangen cross, or in Alsatian s'Rangenkritz, is located at the top of the hill of the same name, overlooking the steep vineyards of the town of Thann. Nine meters high and entirely made of cast iron, it was manufactured, painted white and erected in 1900 in Thann. It was commissioned by a local canon, who wanted to replace the wooden cross erected the previous century at the same place.
Because of its weight, it was assembled in pieces with the help of four oxen at the top of the hill, from where it had to be assembled!
