Der Sage nach war am 4. April 1823 der Knopfmacher Fidelis Martin auf dem Weg nach Beuron. Bei Einbruch der Nacht traf er hier das "Hardtfräulein", das ihn hinaus auf den Felsen führte. Da stürzte der Mann mit samt seinem Pferd hinunter. So kam der Felsen zu seinen Namen.

Vom Aussichtspunkt aus hat man einen faszinierender Talblick bis zum Kloster Beuron und über das Jägerhaus zum Schloss Bronnen.
