Naturpark Karwendel
Bis ins 19. Jahrhundert weideten bis zu 24 Ochsen und einige Melkkühe die Grünflächen des Tales. Als die Holztransporte aus dem Gleirsch- und Samertal für den Bergwerkbetrieb eingestellt wurden und Zug- und Saumvieh nicht mehr notwendig waren, verloren auch die fünf Anger mit einer Gesamtfläche von 130.000 m² an Bedeutung. Drei (Saganger, Kohlanger und Bergangerl) wurden wieder bewaldet, der Klosteranger und der Issanger, der bei weitem größte, blieben jedoch erhalten und wurden von der Landwirtschaft von St. Magdalena genutzt. Als auch dort die Viehhaltung aufgegeben wurde und die beiden verbleibenden Anger 1974 schließlich den Bundesforsten zufielen, deren Aufgabenspektrum in Forstwirtschaft und Jagd liegt, sanken die Chancen für eine Beibehaltung als Grünfläche.
Erhalt und Management
Für den Naturschutz ist die Erhaltung einer solchen Kulturlandschaft allerdings sinnvoll. Der Issanger bietet eine Vielzahl an Lebensräumen auf vergleichsweise kleinem Areal und dadurch auch eine hohe Dichte an Diversität in Flora und Fauna. Arten wie der Pannonische Enzian (Gentiana pannonica) und die Schwalbenwurz (Vincetoxicum hirundinaria) sollten weiterhin bestandsbildend sein und nicht von späteren Sukzessionsstadien verdrängt werden.
Der Naturpark kümmert sich deswegen um eine jährliche Mahd des Issangers. Den Beginn setzte im August 2012 ein Freiwilligenprojekt im Rahmen der Initiative TEAM KARWENDEL, an dem man jedes Jahr wieder teilnehmen kann. Mehr Informationen dazu gibt es hier.
