Die Helenenhöhe ist ein Aussichtspunkt in der Nähe von Steinheid im Thüringer Wald. Sie bietet einen beeindruckenden Blick auf die freie Bergstadt und die umliegende Landschaft. Für Wanderer und Naturliebhaber ist die kleine Schutzhütte ein beliebtes Ziel. Steinheid selbst ist ein malerisches Dorf , fas für seine ruhige Lage auf den Höhen des Thüringer Waldes und seine Geschichte, geprägt durch Goldbergbau und Glasherstellung, bekannt ist. Für Wanderer und Wintersportler ein absoluter Tipp! Die Helenenhöhe bei Steinheid hat ihren Namen zu Ehren von Helene, der Gemahlin von Herzog Georg II. von Sachsen-Meiningen erhalten. Georg II. war ein großer Förderer der Region und der Landschaftspflege im Thüringer Wald. Die Benennung von Aussichtspunkten und anderen geographischen Besonderheiten nach Mitgliedern adliger Familien war im 19. Jahrhundert eine verbreitete Praxis, um ihre Verdienste zu würdigen und ihre Namen zu verewigen.
