The "Grey Head" between Holzhausen an der Haide and Heidenrod-Laufenselden is an elevation of 543.4 m above sea level in the western Hintertaunus region. The Hessian mountainous parts belong to the Rhein-Taunus Nature Park, while the Rhineland-Palatinate sections are part of the Nassau Nature Park. The summit of the wooded mountain lies in Hesse approximately 3.3 km west of Laufenselden and 3 km (in a straight line) east-southeast of Holzhausen an der Haide. The border between the two states reaches its highest point on the northwestern slope of the mountain at about 527 m. This is also the highest point in the Rhineland-Palatinate part of the Taunus.
On the Rhineland-Palatinate northern slope of the "Grey Head" are the ruins of the Holzhausen castle. The Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes describes a slight bend to the north here, deviating from its otherwise very straight course, in order to include the summit in its protection.
Already in Hesse, on the wooded northwestern slope of the "Grey Head," are the 12 wind turbines/wind power plants of the Heidenrod Wind Farm!
