Striking rock formation above Gosbach near Aimer. With its terraces, rock towers and views over the valley, the Krähenstein, which is over 25 m high, offers an impressive natural experience.
The Krähenstein above Gosbach, near the Aimer, is an impressive limestone rock formation that rises strikingly from the wooded slope. With a height of over 25 meters and a partly terraced structure, it is one of the most striking natural formations in the area. The overall height appears even more imposing due to the stepped rock faces.
The rock structure is varied: in addition to smaller rock towers, there are depressions, rock holes and rough surfaces that provide a habitat for numerous plants and animals. While the upper terraces are sunny and dry and are overgrown with typical rock grasses and low shrubs, the lower areas are in the shade. Mosses, ivy and shade-loving plants grow there.
Stunted ash and oak trees thrive between the rocks, while the transition to a sedge-beech forest can be seen on the flanks. Below the cliff band, mighty beech trees with plenty of deadwood and habitat structures characterize the picture.
The Krähenstein offers an impressive view of Unterdrackenstein, the course of the A8 and the steep Alb descent - a quiet place where nature, geology and landscape come together in a special way.
