Auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen Zeche Carl-Alexander hat die Stadt Baesweiler im Jahre 2002 über einen städtebaulichen Wettbewerb neue Nutzungsmöglichkeiten entwickelt. Die grundlegende Idee war eine Mischung aus Natur, Erholungs- und Freizeitnutzung sowie gewerblicher Nutzung.

Der CarlAlexanderPark befindet sich am westlichen Rand der Stadt Baesweiler und erstreckt sich bis Übach-Palenberg. Nördlich und südlich ist er in Ackerflächen eingebettet. Von der Baesweiler Stadtmitte aus spaziert man in der Verlängerung der Carlstraße über eine breite Trasse  geradewegs auf den futuristisch anmutenden, roten Baukörper des „Bergfoyers“ im Park zu. Eingerahmt von roten Riesenschaukeln ist dieses Gebäude erster Informations-, Orientierungs- und Anlaufpunkt mit  Gastronomie. Das markante Bergfoyer liegt mittig auf einer neu geschaffenen Nord-Süd-Achse, die den Park als „Landschaftsader“ geographisch mit den Nachbarn Beeckfließ und Wurmtal verbindet. Die breite Ader ist mit originellen Spielgeräten und Sitzmöglichkeiten möbliert und schafft Raum für pulsierendes Leben. Sie lädt ein zum Verweilen, Schauen, Spazieren, Laufen, Radfahren. Sie ist darüber hinaus Startpunkt für alle Besucher, die nun den Haldenkörper näher erleben möchten.

Vom Bergfoyer aus beginnt der Aufstieg zum in 80 m Höhe gelegenen Bergplateau, einem ruhigen Ort zum Verweilen mit grandiosem Panoramablick über die Euregio Maas-Rhein. Der Aufstieg auf den Berg erfolgt auf spektakuläre Weise über eine im Bergfoyer installierte Steganlage, die durch die Baumwipfel der Halde hindurchführt. Alternativ kann die Halde aber auch über einen wunderschönen Bergpfad mit Ruheplätzen und einem Aussichtspunkt auf die alte Römerstraße „Via Belgica“ erklommen werden.
