Die beiden Raderacher Weiher wurden nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg künstlich durch Überstauung eines großen Verlandungsmoors innerhalb des Hepbacher-Leimbacher Rieds angelegt.

Ein ökologisches Kleinod ist der Südweiher. Seine großflächigen Verlandungszonen sind wichtiger Lebensraum für seltene Tiere und Pfflanzen. Der Südweiher ist Brutgebiet für Schnatterente, Kolbenente und Rohrammer sowie Rastplatz für Zugvögel.
