Das Naherholungsgebiet "Forst" ist ein ausgedehntes Waldgebiet und beliebtes Wanderziel. Alle Wanderwege sind gut ausgebaut. Von den beiden Türmen hat man phantastische Rundblicke über die Stadt. Die Gaststätte Forsthaus ist seit 1840 ein traditioneller Ausflugsort und lädt zur Rast bei Thüringer Gerichten und gepflegten Getränken ein.
