After a steep climb up some steps in the middle of the rocky scenery, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view and fresh forest air.

The “Bastei” (“bastion”) is tucked away in a rocky landscape very close to Thum’s market square, in the forest that extends between Thum and Herold. Pass through a wooden gateway and follow a well-signposted, romantic forest path.

Not far from the bastion is another, higher viewpoint in the forest: the Georgfelsen. You can also explore the Wettinplatz, the former cemetery of an old manor.

The nearest bus stop is "Thum, Markt", about 15 minutes walk.

Directions

From the B95 in Thum, drive in the direction of the town centre/town hall. From the town hall, walk into Bergstrasse, then turn right, and continue straight ahead towards Georgsfelsen/Bastei.

Parking

There is parking in the town centre, just a few metres from the start of the walking trail.
