Beim Baslerweiher in Seewen handelt es sich um einen künstlich angelegten See. Der Seebach wurde 1870 mit einem 10 Meter hohen und 80 Meter breiten Damm gestaut. 70 Jahre diente der See als Trinkwasserquelle für die Stadt Basel, der die Stadt bei Trockenheit mit Wasser versorgte. Im Jahr 2008 gingen der See und die umliegenden Grundstücke in den Besitz des Kantons Solothurn über, auf dessen Kantonsgebiet der See liegt. Heute steht der See wegen seiner artenreichen Flora und Fauna unter kantonalem Naturschutz. Ausserdem gehört der Weiher mit seiner Umgebung zum Bundesinventar der Landschaften und Naturdenkmäler von nationaler Bedeutung (BLN) und wird im Inventar als Gempenplateau aufgeführt.
