The town's first castle was built in the 13th century on the 609-metre-high Karlshöhe (Óház-tető), the upper or old castle (The Old House) - today a lookout tower.
Known today as Óház (German, not literally: Old House), the tower and ruins were Güns' (Kőszeg's) oldest castle, built before 1242. From the heyday of the upper castle in Güns/Kőszeg, a boundary description has been handed down which names a bridle path leading from the castle in Lockenhausen to the upper castle in Güns/Kőszeg, a castle path connecting Rechnitz and Güns/Kőszeg and a castle well securing the upper castle's water supply. Decay began after 1400. In 1996, a lookout tower was built from the ruins on the Karlshöhe (The Old House, 609 m), from where a wonderful panorama extends towards Güns/Kőszeg, Steinamanger/Szombathely, the nearby witness mountains Ság and Somló, Lake Neusiedl and neighboring Austria. Due to its easy accessibility, tourists love to visit it.
