Vor uns liegt das flache Münsterland - die nächsten höheren Berge sind von hier aus gesehen erst im Sauerland zu finden. Der Aussichtspunkt wurde vom Kalkwerk Lienen eingerichtet, das in diesem Höhenzug seinen Hauptrohstoff abbaut: Kalk.

Der ganze Höhenzug, auf dem wir hier herumradeln, besteht aus Kalkstein. Als sich vor rund 90 Millionwen Jahren (nach der Sandstrand-Episode) das Meer noch weiter ausgedehnt hatte, stand auch hier endgültig alles unter Wasser.
