Die Burg Neuenstein wird erstmals 1315 urkundlich erwähnt und beim Erdbeben von Basel, 1356, zerstört. Danach wurde sie wieder aufgebaut. Doch vermutlich schon vor dem 30 jährigen Krieg (1618 – 1648) dürfte dieBurg wieder verlassen worden und untergegangen sein. Auf der obersten Plattform dürfte die Hauptburg gelegen haben. Es sind noch wenige Reste einer Umfassungsmauer sichtbar. Im Mittelteil der Anlage sind Spuren eines länglichen Gebäudes und ein in den Felsen gehauenen Keller zu erkennen.
