Marktgemeinde Gurk

Gurk is known and appreciated far beyond the borders of Carinthia because of its cathedral, its history and its privileged location. Even the Pope has been here! The municipality of Gurk is located in the heart of the Gurk Valley.

Gurk is famous for its imposing Romanesque cathedral. And not just since Pope John Paul II paid his respects to the sacred building in the late 1980s. The Treasury Gurk was newly opened in May 2014. In its ten rooms in the monastery, the newly designed Diocesan Museum provides a representative insight into the religious art of bygone eras in Carinthia.

If you want to be active, you will find wonderful hiking trails, cycling routes, tennis courts, an outdoor pool and even a shooting range. In addition, there are extensive cross-country ski trails in winter, provided Petrus is not stingy with snow. A wide range of cultural and traditional events ensures that even the less sporty guest never gets bored.
