Kinder- und Jugendtheater

Since its foundation in March 1990, our children's and youth theater in Speyer has pursued the goal of actively confronting children and young people with the medium of theater. In our venue, the Alter Stadtsaal, a continuous program of children's and youth theatre productions is offered between September and June. With our repertoire, as an independent theater, we are an integral part of Speyer's municipal city culture, but also a guest at many different venues throughout the country. The children's and youth theater fulfills its cultural educational mission for Speyer and the surrounding area. In addition to the public performances at weekends, there are numerous closed performances for schools and kindergartens. Inclusion and integration are practiced here every day and are a matter of course. The Altes Stadtsaal has developed into a socio-cultural center and is established as such in Speyer. The Theater im Alten Stadtsaal is located in the heart of the city. The listed municipal building houses two performance spaces with different characteristics. The small hall downstairs is a studio stage with seating for 120 spectators. In the large hall upstairs, where the Kulturbeutel festival and the large Christmas productions take place, 250 spectators can watch the performances on a peep-box stage.

The "Alte Stadtsaal" is one of the most popular venues in Speyer. It has been used in various functions since its opening in January 1887. After an initial refurbishment, it was put back into service as a cultural venue around 1990. The renovation saved the building, which had been considered a dilapidated hovel, but left a lot to be desired. In 2019 / 2020, the venue was overhauled, renovated and refurbished in the areas of fire protection, energy saving, electrical and stage technology so that the children's and youth theater could shine in new splendor for its 30th anniversary in March 2020. The theater's program is aimed at all age groups. The choice of plays is based on real-life topics that are relevant to the everyday lives of young audiences. The dramaturgy and production work aims to make the fascination and special nature of the medium of theater tangible and tangible.
