“Watch your head!” is the warning at Hermannshöhle, northwest of Kirchberg am Wechsel. A total of 17 bat species live in this cave. They can do so largely undisturbed, as Hermannshöhle has been a natural monument since 1931.
The Largest Stalactite Cave in Lower Austria
The passageways in the cave are more than four kilometers long and extend across several levels. The Hermannshöhle is a tourist cave and can be visited on a guided tour. In addition to a classic tour, there is also an extended version that includes the Kyrle Labyrinth, as well as an adventure tour that takes you into parts of the cave system that have not been developed for visitors.
The most important winter roost for bats
The rock formations in the cave are also very interesting, such as deposits of “mountain milk.” Stalactites and stalagmites make the Hermannshöhle the largest stalactite cave in Lower Austria.
