Das am Fuße des Montmartre Hügels liegende Moulin Rouge ist das bekannteste Cabaret der Welt.

Das Moulin Rouge wurde im Jahre 1889 erbaut und stellt die Nachbildung einer Mühle dar (Moulin Rouge = Rote Mühle). Der Montmarte ist die höchste Erhebung Paris, auf der dadurch Windmühlen gebaut wurden und der zum Aussuichtspunkt wurde.

Im Moulin Rouge fanden zunächst Bälle statt, bei denen die berühmtesten Tänzerinnen Paris auftraten. Später wurden dort Operetten und Revuen aufgeführt.

Heutzutage kann man Tickets für eine 2-stündige Show mit über 60 Tänzerinnen und Tänzern aus aller Welt buchen. Begleitet wird die Show mit einem luxuriösen Abendessen und einer Flasche Champagner – das Etablissement verzeichnet nämlich den größten Champagner Umsatz der Welt.
