Star Mountain is a karst plateau, which is located on the watershed of the Bosna River and the Krivaje tributaries. The mountain itself is a watershed basin: on the southern and southwestern parts of the basin are Stavnje and Trstionice, and on the east and northeastern parts are Misoče i Duboštice.

The highest summit of Star Mountain is the Star summit, after which the mountain is named, with an altitude of 1,349 meters above sea level. Other significant peaks, which rise to the east of the Star summit, are Bijeli kamen (1.325 m/sl), Tremošnjak (1.320 m/sl), Pogladin (1.246 m/sl), Jelovo brdo (1.318 m/sl) and others.

As the geological structure of this mountain plateau is very complex, its geological substrate has caused a diversity of landscapes and morphological forms of soil, as well as the development of multiple watercourses that emerge from the Bosna River basin. Therefore, on this plateau you can find different landscapes, pastures and fields along with significant areas of excellent forest.

This area is also filled with a high number of sinkholes, which form horn, round or oval shapes from the melting of limestone and dolomite and are distinctively karst morphological shapes. Besides these, the area is known for other karst morphological shapes such as pits and caves.

According to the publication Nature 2000 in BiH, there are two very important habitats on Star Mountain. The habitat of active, elevated bogs (Nature 2000 code 7110), which provides a special mark of the plant world of famous peat bogs on Star Mountain, includes Šimin stream, Krčevačka bar, Karin hill and a large peat bog which is popularly known as Tentina bar 50 (the name comes from the former owner). Acidophilus spruce forests on the hill to mountain belt (Vaccinio - Piceetea) ( Natura 2000 code 9410 ) are submountainous and mountainous coniferous forests where the common spruce (Picea Abies) is common. Sphagno - Piceetum Stef. 1964 represents the remnant of a community, described through Star Mountain and the plateau Nišići – Bijambare, on the plains and depressions of bog land, at an altitude of 1,000 m.
