Der Sommerstein ist ein 2.308 m hoher Berg in den Berchtesgadener Alpen. Er liegt in Salzburg, im Süden des Steinernen Meeres, oberhalb von Saalfelden und Maria Alm.
Vom Parkplatz Sandten führt ein steile Forststraße bis zur Materialseilbahn. Von hier beginnt der alpine Steig durch felsiges Gelände (Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit erforderlich!) zum Riemannhaus 2.177m.
Weiter zum Sommerstein noch ca. eine halbe Stunde Gehzeit. Der Abstieg erfolgt wie der Aufstieg. Empfehlenswert ist auch eine Wanderung am Hochplateau und Abstieg über die Buchauerscharte (Gehzeit ca. 5 Stunden) .

Durch die West- und Südwand des Sommersteins führen anspruchsvolle Kletterrouten.

Anreise von Salzburg kommend: Auf der Autobahn A10 bis Ausfahrt Bischofshofen, dann auf der B311 in Richtung Bischofshofen. Der Hochkönig Bundesstraße/B164 nach Maria Alm folgen. Hier durch das Orstzentrum und kurz nach dem Zentrum über die Brücken Richtung Griessbachwinkel fahren, weiter der Beschilderung folgend mit dem Auto bis zum Parkplatz Sandten.
Anreise von Innsbruck/ Kufstein kommend: Auf der Loferer Straße/B178 Richtung St. Johann i.T., dann über die Hochkönig Bundesstraße/B164 über Saalfelden nach Maria Alm. Hier durch das Orstzentrum und kurz nach dem Zentrum über die Brücken Richtung Griessbachwinkel fahren, weiter der Beschilderung folgend mit dem Auto bis zum Parkplatz Sandten.
Für die Nutzung des österreichischen Anutobahn- und Schnellstraßennetzes ist eine gültige Vignette erforderlich. Ebenfalls gilt eine Mitführpflicht von Verbandszeug, Warndreieck und Warnweste. Weitere Infos dazu unter Asfinag.
