Piramidi di Terra (The Earth Pyramids)
A masterpiece of nature, unique in Trentino: the Pyramids of Terra di Segonzano are like works sculpted by time, up to 20 meters high.
Towers, ridges, pinnacles arranged like organ pipes, tall columns topped by a porphyry boulder: you are faced with a masterpiece of nature, built by time. The origins of these earthen pyramids, up to 20 meters high, date back to about 20,000 years ago when the movement of the Avisio glaciers and the consequent disintegration of the mountain flanks produced huge moraine deposits.
The pyramids of Segonzano have various shapes: the classic one is a truncated cone surmounted by a boulder. Next to this you can see the pointed pyramids with conical stem and without the protective boulder: these are generally not very high. Another shape is that of a ridge, consisting of a sawed and sharpened ground blade, whose formation is due to the thinning of the watershed, between two gutters. The pyramids are accessible all year round via a walking route that, between trips, takes about 2.45 hours.
