Matterhorn ist eine Station der “Grand Tour of Switzerland“

Touristisches Highlight: Matterhorn – Sinnbild für die Schweiz​

Das Matterhorn und die Schweiz sind untrennbar verbunden. Der pyramidenförmige Bergriese, der nur sehr schwer zu besteigen ist, gilt als der meistfotografierte Berg der Welt. Ihm gegenüber liegt das durch eine Seilbahn erschlossene Klein-Matterhorn.
Im Jahr 1865 veränderte die Erstbesteigung des Matterhorns, die vier von sieben Alpinisten das Leben kostete, die bis dahin sehr abgeschiedene Region für immer. Das Matterhorn wurde weltbekannt und zum Ziel ehrgeiziger Bergsteiger. Noch heute ist die Matterhornbesteigung sehr anspruchsvoll und nur für geübte Bergsteiger mit guter Ausrüstung und kompetentem Führer zu schaffen. Einen fantastischen Blick auf den meistfotografierten Berg der Welt hat man vom Klein-Matterhorn (Matterhorn Paradise) aus, das nur durch den Theodulpass und -gletscher vom Matterhorn getrennt ist. Es ist von Zermatt aus mit Luftseilbahnen erschlossen, die Bergstation auf 3820 Metern über Meer ist die höchste Seilbahnstation der Alpen.
