Der Mont Ventoux ist eine 1912 m hohe Erhebung in der französischen Provence zwischen Marseille und Avignon. Er ist von großer historischer Bedeutung, denn bereits die Kelten verehrten ihn Quellen zufolge als heiligen Berg. Überregional bekannt wurde der Berg nach dem gelungenen Aufstieg des Dichters Francesco Petrarca im Jahr 1336, der seine Erlebnisse in zahlreichen Aufzeichnungen schilderte.

Heutzutage ist der Berg weniger ein Ziel für Wanderer. Umso mehr Radfahrer finden sich jedes Jahr hier ein um für die Tour de France zu trainieren, die seit den 1950er Jahren über den Gipfel führt.
