Heldenberg

The Heldenberg is a picturesque nature reserve in the district of Göppingen, which stretches across the districts of the towns of Donzdorf and Lauterstein. Located to the east of Winzingen and bordered by the Lauter river and the B 466, the protected area covers around 213.5 hectares and was designated as nature reserve no. 1.198 in 1993.

The diverse, ecologically extremely valuable landscape makes the Heldenberg a special place for nature lovers, hikers and those seeking peace and quiet. The varied topography with heaths, wet and dry meadows, hillside spring moors, orchards, hedges and various types of near-natural forest - from damp ravine forest to dry and warm forest stands - provides a habitat for a large number of rare and endangered animal and plant species.

A well-developed network of paths leads through idyllic nature, past species-rich biotopes and expansive views. With a bit of luck, you may spot wild boar, deer or rare bird species. The Heldenberg invites you to discover the unique flora and fauna of the Swabian Alb in a mindful way.
