Der Große Arber ist mit 1456 m der höchste Berg des Bayerisch-Böhmischen Grenzgebirges und wird auch „König des Bayerischen Waldes“ genannt.

Am Großen Arber befindet sich ein beliebtes Wintersportgebiet. Neben kleineren Anfängerliften und großen Liften wie unter anderem die 6er-Gondelbahn oder die 6er-Sesselbahnen, zieht der Große Arber mit acht Abfahrten die Wintersportler an.
