Der Fußstein ist ein schwieriger Gipfel in den Zillertaler Alpen, der deshalb nur wenig bestiegen wird.
Bekanntester Anstieg auf den Fußstein ist die Nordkante (V), welche auch im "extremen Fels von Walter Pause" beschrieben wird. Deutlich einfacher, aber mehr Seillängen ist der Westgrat, der auch Hüttengrat genannt wird. Für beide Touren ist die gut geführte Geraer Hütte sehr zu empfehlen. Diese wird am einfachsten von Valser Tal (Seitental des Brenners) erreicht.
Der übliche Abstieg in der Südwestwand ist mit Stellen im 3ten Grad und mehreren Abseilen ebenfalls anspruchsvoll. Alternativ wird als "Abstieg" der Gratübergang zum Olperer gemacht.
