Der Fichtelberg ist mit seinen 1.215 m der höchste Berg Ostdeutschlands. Etwa 750 m südwestlich befindet sich der Kleine Fichtelberg, zusammen mit dem Keilberg auf tschechischer Seite, bilden die Erhebungen das bedeutendste Wintersportzentrum des Erzgebirges.

Der Gipfel des Fichtelberges ist ein wichtiger Ausflugspunkt geworden, denn von dort hat man bei schönem Wetter den besten Ausblick auf die höchstgelegene Stadt Deutschlands und dem Obererzgebirge. Schon von weitem können Sie das Panorama des Fichtelbergs mit dem Fichtelberghaus erkennen. Das Fichtelberghaus mit seinem Aussichtsturm ist eine beliebte Raststätte und Unterkunft für Touristen.

Die Friedensglocke und die Wetterwarte auf dem Fichtelbergplateau sind ebenfalls sehr sehenswert. Besonders an Sonn- und Feiertagen ist das Läuten der Friedensglocke ein weiteres Highlight für die Besucher auf dem Gipfel.

Die einfachste Möglichkeit um auf den Fichtelberg zu gelangen ist die Fahrt mit der Fichtelberg-Schwebebahn oder dem Vierersessellift. Aber auch mit dem PKW können Sie über die Bundesstraße 95 und die Fichtelbergstraße bis auf den Gipfel fahren.
