Dinara is the highest mountain in Croatia and one of the most picturesque mountains of Dalmatia and the Dalmatian hinterland. The peak itself consists of several stone tips covered in thicket. On one tip, oriented towards Peručko Lake, there is a geodetic pillar, and there is a cross on one other tip.
View: The peak of Dinara offers a view of almost all mountains of Dalmatia and Bosnia. The view of Peručko Lake deep down captures particular attention.
Seal: The peak of Dinara is the only HPO peak where visitor should prove one's visit with a photograph rather than only with a stamp. The metal seal is located on a rock 4 meters south of the peak and in the metal box at the geodetic pillar.
Directions
Approaches:- Suvo polje – mountain hut Brezovac – Dinara 5 h
- Glavaš – mountain shelter Martinova košara – Dinara 4 h
- Mirkovići – Dinara 3.30 h
Climbs to the peak of Dinara require good fitness level, since approaches are long, steep and hard. In order to popularize the mountain of Dinara, the Croatian Mountaineering Association organizes a group hiking tour to the peak of the mountain every year, in cooperation with the mountaineering societies from Knin and Kijevo. The climb from Knin, across Suvo polje and Brezovac, is simpler and more interesting than the climb from Glavaš, and it can also be combined with the climb to the peak of Badanj, which is also a checkpoint of the Croatian Hiking Tour (HPO; see description of the approach for Badanj - checkpoint KT 17. 6.). On the route from Knin, an important facility is the mountain hut Brezovac (1050 m.a.s.l.), managed by the mountaineering society HPD Dinara from Knin. The peak of Dinara can be reached from Suvo polje in 5 hours of hiking. On the same day, one should either return from the peak back to Brezovac, or descend to the other side of Dinara towards the village of Glavaš (4 hours of hiking from the peak).
