You can come across the Blatenský vrch lookout tower on your wanderings through the Ore Mountains about 2 km from Horní Blatná. The lookout tower is located on the route of the two popular nature trails Vlčí jámy (Wolfspinge) and Plattner Kunstgraben (Blatenský příkop). A rest and a climb up the tower are highly recommended.
The 21-metre-high stone lookout tower was built in 1913 on the initiative of the Horní Blatná winter sports club. The lookout tower was part of a hotel and was intended to help develop tourism in this part of the Ore Mountains. The hotel with the lookout tower served its purpose until the 1940s, when a restricted military area was established here. Due to its dilapidated condition, the hotel had to be demolished a few years later. The lookout tower was only preserved thanks to the initiative of members of the Czech Association of Nature Conservationists.
Opening times
The observation tower is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the vacations and at the same time at weekends outside the summer season.
