Jedes Jahr im September kommen die Alphirten mit ihren Kühen nach 100 Tagen auf Bergeshöhen hinab ins Tal. Dort werden die Tiere wieder ihren Besitzern zugeteilt, bei denen sie den Winter verbringen werden. Dies ist der eigentliche Viehscheid. Das laute Glockengetöse und der bunte Blumenschmuck auf den Köpfen des Viehs ziehen immer wieder zahlreiche Besucher wie Einheimische in ihren Bann. Ist der Sommer gut und ohne Verluste verlaufen, wird abends in den Ortschaften des Allgäus kräftig gefeiert.
