Horses used to be changed on this square. The arriving travelers and coachmen used to orient themselves by means of the post mileage column, the so-called navigation system of the 18th century.
The pillar was erected on the orders of Elector Augustus the Strong and served as a signpost for coachmen. Measured in coach hours, they could read the distance between the individual towns. For example, two hours by coach corresponded to approximately ten kilometers. The Hotel Zum Weissen Ross was as important for travelers back then as it is today. It is the oldest inn in the town with a history dating back more than 500 years.
House at Roßplatz 1:
The building at Roßplatz 1 was occupied by the Delitzscher Volksbank in 1926, which became its property in 1927. The transformation of the Vorschussverein into Delitzscher Volksbank took place over decades. With over 18 million members, the cooperative banks form the largest cooperative group in Germany. It was in Delitzsch that Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch developed the idea for a cooperative bank.

The Roßplatz square with the post mile column on it is open to the public at all times.
Public transport
Take the S2 from Leipzig main station to Delitzsch Unterer Bahnhof. From there approx. 20 minutes on foot,
or continue by bus to Delitzsch, Eilenburger Straße. From there another 2 minutes on foot.

Via the B2 and the S4 to Delitzsch.
