Der Oberrheinplatz am Eingang der heutigen Fußgängerzone ist ein historischer Platz mit einem Gebäude-Ensemble aus den 1920er Jahre im Stil der Reformarchitektur. Die ursprüngliche Platz- und Gebäudegestaltung stammt von dem Architekten und Stadtbaumeister Ewald Steffen.
Die moderne verkehrsberuhige Umgestaltung mit der großen Pergola erfolgte in den 1990er Jahren im Rahmen des Umbaus der Karl-Fürstenbergstraße zur Fußgängerzone.
Der moderne "Narrenbrunnen" wurde von dem Rheinfelder Bildhauer Leonhard Eder geschaffen. Er symbolisiert die Rheinfelder Fasnacht. In einem "Spielkartenturm" tummeln sich die vielfältigen Rheinfelder Cliquen, gekrönt vom badisch-Rheinfelder "Latschari" und dem Schweizer "Waggis".
