Place in Athens between the old town Plaka and the popular shopping street Ermou
Monastiraki means little monastery - the square got its name from the church of Panagia Pantanassa, which was expanded into a large monastery in the 17th century. After the demise of the monastery, only the main church remained.
The square is colourful and lively - small shops, restaurants and cafés invite you to stroll and linger - and in the immediate vicinity is the charming Athens Flea Market.
