Kunigundenstraße in the south-western part of the old town was an extension of Metzgergasse until 1895. The street is named after Neustadt's saviour during the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689.
The daughter of a citizen, Kunigunde Kirchner, saved the city from destruction thanks to her love for French General de Werth. Two sculptures bear witness to this. Her parents probably resided at number 15.
Today there are many specialities in Neustadt commemorating Kunigunde. For example, you might have heard of the Kunigunde cake from one of Neustadt's top confectioners (Confiserie Michel on Kellereistraße).
