Die Große Röder, ein Nebenfluss der Schwarzen Elster, entspringt südwestlich des Hochsteins in einer mit Holzpfählen eingefassten Quelle in 326 m Höhe nahe dem Rammenauer Ortsteil Röderbrunn. Sie führt über Großröhrsdorf, Radeberg, Radeburg, Großenhain und Gröditz in Richtung Elsterwerda, wo sie westlich der brandenburgischen Kommune in die Schwarze Elster mündet.
Die Röderquelle ist Startpunkt der Röderadroute und eine Station der Naturerlebnisroute der Westlausitz.
