The Mühlbach spring in Eybach near Geislingen is a picturesque karst spring - once vital for humans and animals, today an idyllic place to rest and cool your feet while hiking.
Nestled in the idyllic Eybachtal valley near Geislingen an der Steige, the Mühlbach spring rises - a so-called pot spring, typical of the "shallow karst" of the Swabian Alb. The clear spring water rises from the White Jurassic below the valley floor, where the mountainside and valley fill meet. It is one of the few springs that has a reliable supply of water almost all year round - a small natural wonder and historical source of life.
For centuries, the Mühlbach, also known as the "Mühlbrunnen", was an indispensable source of drinking water for the people of Eybach and the surrounding Alb villages. Horses and cattle were watered here, while the fire department and households used the water for extinguishing fires and cooking. The spring even served as a bathing place - a natural meeting point and place for everyday life. The water was so precious, especially in dry periods, that it was transported in wooden barrels on carts to the higher villages - until the Alb water supply replaced the transportation in 1880.
Today, the Mühlbach spring invites hikers and day-trippers to pause for a moment. Anyone who dips their feet into the cool spring water after a hike through the Eybach valley will immediately feel that this is where history meets nature - a small but impressive place of peace and refreshment.
