Die Elz, ein 120 km langer Nebenfluss des Rheins, entspringt in 1.050 m ü.M. zwischen dem Furtwänglehof und dem Kolmenhof in der Nähe der Wasserscheide Donau / Rhein. Mit einer Tafel hat der Schwarzwaldverein im Jahr 1964 den Quellaustritt der Elz gefasst, obwohl deren Ursprung mehr als hundert Meter höher abseits des Wanderweges liegt.
