Zur Geschichte des Laufener Stadtmauer

Auch wenn die Ummauerung der Stadt Laufen erst 1251 das erste Mal urkundlich belegt ist, darf man annehmen, dass sie wohl schon früher bestand. Die zinnenbekrönte Mauer hatte eine untere Stärke von etwa 150 cm und eine obere von mehr als 70 cm und war etwa 12 bis 13 Meter hoch. Obwohl diese Stadtummauerung seit ihrer Erbauung (besonders in Kriegszeiten) stetig ausgebaut und verstärkt wurde sind heute nur noch wenige Reste erhalten.



Die Laufener Stadtmauer

An der West-, Süd- und Ostseite der Stadt Laufen ist die ehemalige Ummauerung der Stadt in teilen noch erhalten, allerdings unterbrochen und teilweise überbaut. Die Stadtbefestigung wurde erstmals 1251 erwähnt, eine erste Verbesserung und Verstärkung erfolgte 1520, weietre in den Jahren 1646/47 und 1663/64. Die Stadtmauer hatte eine Höhe von 12 bis 13 Meter, die Stärke der Mauer betrug im unteren Bereich 150 cm im oberen 70 cm und war mit Zinnen bekrönt, dahinter befand sich ein Wehrgang mit Schießscharten.

Von den ehemals 26 Türmen sind noch vier erhalten:

Oberes Stadttor, sogenanntes Salzburger Tor, Torturm, viergeschossiger Turm mit Zeltdach, Glockentürmchen und Durchfahrt, erste Hälfte 13. Jahrhundert, Umgestaltung 16. und 17. Jahrhundert; Unteres Stadttor, sogenannter Almscher Turm, Torturm, dreigeschossiger Turm mit Zeltdach, Durchfahrt und starkem Wulst, erste Hälfte 13. Jahrhundert, Umgestaltung 16. und 17. Jahrhundert; Wehrturm, viergeschossiger Turm mit Zeltdach, mittelalterlich, Umgestaltung 1891/92, Einheit mit Rathausplatz 3 und Von-Brandl-Straße 2; Sogenannter Zinkenturm, Wehrturm, dreigeschossiger Turm mit Mansarddach und Putzgliederung, vor 1343, 18. Jahrhundert Dachumbau, erste Hälfte 19. Jahrhundert Fassadengestaltung, 1899, ehemaliges Untergeschoss verfüllt
