Die Kirche Sankt Katharina stammt aus dem Jahr 1250. Sie war Teil des ersten Franziskanerklosters ganz Schwedens, das 1233 in Visby gegründet wurde.
Im 14. Jahrhundert verlangten die Franziskaner nach einer neuen Kirche und so wurde St. Karin erweitert und erhielt moderne gotische Fenster, die die Apsis in ein wunderbares Licht tauchten.
Das Kloster bestand bis in das 16. Jahrhundert hinein.
Heute finden in der Kirche verschiedene Veranstaltungen wie Mittelalterfeste statt.
